When the pilot is unable to see behind the rear portion of the aircraft, pushback is performed using a towing tractor until the aircraft reaches the taxiway where it can be self-propelled. When we wave at a departing aircraft, we express our desire for it to have a safe trip and comfortable flight. “Towing” refers to the work performed to move an aircraft across the tarmac.
